Open Source Shopping Cart - great flexibility

December 2015

We had put a not so good review on in September 2013 when we were having some problems with our site hosting, however I would like to update my review as VPASP (now VP-Cart) has improved significantly.

Support is so much better, usually replied to within a couple of hours and the guys are really helpful. Site hosting too is so much better. Our sites are hardly ever down and if they are they comes back up very quickly.

We are in the process of upgrading one of our sites to Version 8 which is fully responsive and has many extra features. The open source code is great. Both our sites are heavily customised but still retain many of the underlying shopping cart features implemented by VPASP you would expect.... loyalty point scheme, affiliate scheme, product suggestions, product reviews, tell a friend.

I would now definitely recommend VPASP. Template site layout can be up and running very easily, but the customisation is the real bonus for us. The code can be tricky to navigate to begin with, and there are so many configuration options it can be overwhelming, however once you get your head round the code it is really... VPASP Shopping cart is a Money Pit
07 June 2014

I purchased the 6.5 valued version for $295 in 2011. I got the cart up and running, and actually redesigned the built-in web template for my business. However, 1 -year after my purchase they removed my support credits ( 95 unused of of 100!), the USPS v3 shipping api for VPASP 6.5 is now obsolete and I have to upgrade to cart version 7.0 just to download the "so-called" add-on version v4 of the USPS shipping api. * I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. ITS A MONEY PIT...Greed..Greed. Greed.

PROS: A lot of rich features

CONS: YOU WILL PAY AT LEAST $200.00 or more every 2 years to keep the license current.

DO NOT BUT VP-ASP

In summary, I would not recommend VP-ASP Shopping Cart to a friend.

Open Source ASP solution. Terrible Hosting. Poor support.

Potentially a good product, with good flexibility and features, let down by terrible hosting and poor support.

Our site has been up and running for 10 months now. We chose VPASP because we wanted an Open Source ASP solution and there is not much choice out there. E-Commerce Templates was an alternative option but we need some initial customisation done for our site and they were not particularly helpful. VPASP were able to help us with our customisation at a reasonable price.

VPASP offers excellent features. The software is not very well written, but manageable. I would agree with other reviews... it is not easy to run a local version of the software for testing(we have never managed to achieve this!) and VPASP needs a fairly experienced developer to develop a decent site, but the potential is there and in-house changes are possible which is good. (We are working with the latest version of VPASP and have yet to update our software which will be problematic due to customisation so the jury is out on version updates!)

We have the VP-ASP Business Ready Deluxe package which includes hosting. WEBSITE HOSTING IS TERRIBLE. Our site has been down repeatedly. ... (Read the full review)

VPASP is good, Except!

I have used VPASP for several years and under a variety of "shopping cart" conditions and overall it is basically easy to use 'out of the box'. It is not too difficult to make custom modifications if you have a little knowledge of coding. The manuals are fairly complete and provide answers to most situations.

Now the down sides -

1. Tech support is provided by a paid subscription and they do answer questions somewhat quickly and completely. But you are going to pay for it.

2. Updating the software is mandatory. And again after the initial period, 1 year, you have to pay for another year to keep updated. They have allowed older versions to become inconsistent with common browser updates. This means YOU ARE GOING TO PAY for an updated version or it won't work. This is a problem I am facing now.

>> My older (V6.5 Deluxe) worked well for years, then with updates in browser technology this version became inconsistent and not working. Contacted VPASP and they told me that the cart will still work with older browsers but for it to work with current browsers I would have to upgrade to V7.0 Deluxe... (Read the full review)

Low quality shopping cart software with terrible support
19 January 2013

VP-ASP touts the flexibility of their software, but what they really mean is that the software REQUIRES reprogramming just to run properly. If you were buying a house, it would be like a buying a "fixer-upper" in a bad part of town. If you happen to be a carpenter who wants to dedicate considerable time to fixing the place up -- and are betting the neighborhood will someday improve -- you've found your dream home. If you just want an appealing, comfortable place to live that isn't falling apart, look anywhere else.

I am a professional web developer, and I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with VP-ASP for 2 separate projects. Many years ago, I made the mistake of choosing VP-ASP to set up an online store, and more recently, a client of mine asked me to move an existing e-commerce site to a new server. I am an expert in this area and yet both experiences were miserable.

Pros:

-- The initial costs are relatively low.

-- Offers most standard shopping cart features.

Cons:

-- The software itself is poorly coded and poorly updated. The files are terribly organized, almost to the point of being comical (if it weren't such a headache to... (Read the full review)

Terrible E-commerce System & Company

Reviewer: StarDog from UK

DO NOT USE THIS OUT OF DATE, UNSUPPORTED "SOFTWARE".

I recently had a client who used VP ASP and wanted me to move their site over to a new host under a new domain name.

Knowing nothing of VP ASP (Other than it's built on classic ASP from 1998) I decided to try contacting their Tech Support (I'm in the UK) so called their UK number. After an automated message it hung up - offering NO tech support. So I called their sales line where I was told either I purchased "Support Points" or my client paid for another license in order for them to want to help. After pointing out that this is outrageous the Australian guy speaking to me simply replied "To be honest mate, I don't care".. I was absolutely shocked! Unless myself or my client gave over money there would be no help. My clients site is currently broken and will not be fixed without them purchasing a new license (since support only lasts 30 days after license purchase apparently).. So be warned, if your looking for help after 30 days your not going to get it unless you part with $$!

If the software was the greatest... (Read the full review)
